About The Position

Collins is an ENR Top 500 Design Firm seeking a highly motivated and experienced Bridge Inspection Team Leader to join and expand the Michigan team. The ideal candidate will have experience in bridge and structural inspections and project management, bringing creative problem-solving skills and a strong field background. This position involves managing projects, consulting with clients and government agencies, and directing teams. It offers career growth opportunities within a company that is a leader in the industry. The role is a mix of office and fieldwork with some state-wide and local travel. The position is at minimum 25% in office, with current expansion for Michigan led from the Lansing office. You will collaborate with experienced professionals in bridge and structure inspections, evaluations, and rehabilitation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited four-year university.
  • Must have passed the NHI/FHWA Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course #130055 and/or #130091.
  • Must be currently certified by MDOT as a Qualified Team Leader.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification required.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 4-5 years of bridge inspection experience.
  • NICET certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated bridge design experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise above-water and underwater bridge and ancillary structure evaluation and hands-on inspection.
  • Be familiar and competent with the use of MI Bridge program for MDOT.
  • Review, analyze, and provide recommendations on field and/or design issues or adaptations.
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets and assist in proposal preparation.
  • Accountable for project schedules and timely completion of projects.
  • Responsible for standard and intermediate challenging engineering projects in field or office in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Perform simple and complex engineering computations and estimates related to inspection projects and rehabilitation plans.
  • Prepare complete engineering plans or reports meeting MDOT design guidelines.
  • Direct and supervise the work of entry-level engineers, technicians, drafters, and administrative staff.
  • Coach field staff on the purpose and processes of inspections and inspection techniques.
  • Make independent decisions within a general framework.
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Field work required, which could include nights and weekends.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
