About The Position

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Team Lead, SMT is responsible for the products manufactured on the SMT (Surface Mount Technology) line. This position takes a lead role in providing guidance to SMT Operators on process improvement, best-practice set up, quality assurance, along with ensuring standard SMT processes have been adhered to and acting as a point of escalation for quality concerns. Work Schedule: Afternoon shift, Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required, technical diploma preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of previous SMT operator experience with supervisory or team lead responsibilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret Bills of Material (BOM) and manufacturing process instructions accurately.
  • Strong knowledge of SMT component packages, types, and industry-standard markings.
  • In-depth understanding of IPC-610 standards for electronic assembly quality and workmanship.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word for documentation, reporting, and data management.
  • Familiarity with inventory management and ERP systems for production tracking.
  • Mechanically inclined with exceptional attention to detail and precision.
  • Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles to drive efficiency and waste reduction.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Proven leadership abilities and team collaboration mindset.
  • Positive attitude focused on achieving high production volumes and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate SMT machines and related production equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Schedule and delegate staff assignments and workloads to optimize team performance.
  • Update daily production charts and perform routine audits to verify adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Train new SMT operators on processes, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Attend meetings to address major issues, concerns, or production escalations.
  • Assume partial SMT Technologist duties during technologist absences.
  • Contribute to developing and refining standard operating procedures.
  • Lead problem-solving sessions to identify and resolve line efficiency and quality issues.
  • Monitor hourly/daily productivity metrics to ensure company targets are met.
  • Escalate quality concerns as needed, including authority to stop the line when required.
  • Maintain equipment and perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks.
