About The Position

This role involves managing the day-to-day operations of the robotic weld area, ensuring team efficiency, and upholding safety policies. The position requires critical thinking for conflict resolution, communication with other departments, and performing quality checks. Responsibilities include inspecting road safety components, reworking non-compliant welds, providing feedback to welders, and producing metal assemblies to quality and efficiency standards. The role also involves reading check sheets and prints, understanding various assembly techniques (weld, torch, plasma), and applying knowledge of welding and cutting processes. A key aspect is the understanding and application of robotic welding, including basic programming, fault troubleshooting, and training new employees. Proficiency in welding gases, electrodes, product changeovers, first article inspections, and performing maintenance/housekeeping are also essential. The use of hand tools like calipers and height gauges is required, along with effective teamwork and communication. All tasks must be performed safely, efficiently, and accurately, contributing to a quality product and maintaining good attendance and compliance with company policies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent courses in welding operations (manual and/or robotic) with a Level II Certification
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in a manufacturing environment with manual or robotic weld operation and set-up
  • Basic to intermediate math skills to analyze information and measuring equipment.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills
  • Ability to train others
  • Leading and positively influencing others

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations in robotic weld area.
  • Ensure team efficiency.
  • Understand and enforce safety policies and other company rules.
  • Critically think to solve conflicts that may arise.
  • Communicate with other plants and/or departments on materials.
  • Complete quality checks.
  • Responsible for inspection of road safety components within the cell in which he/she is working, ensuring that all welds are present and correct per the drawing.
  • Responsible for reworking (or having another welder within the cell rework) any weldments that do not meet the requirements.
  • Responsible for feedback to other welders on acceptable weld quality and reporting any issues with other welders to the Takt Lead.
  • Producing assemblies of metal work pieces to quality and efficiency standards, including repetitively lifting and placing metal work pieces and sheets into fixtures manually and repetitively, removing completed assemblies.
  • Reading check sheets and prints to determine specifications, such as parts and fixtures to be used, placement of parts, dimensions and tolerances, proper labeling of parts, etc., and accurately completing all required functions to ensure only quality product is produced and shipped to customers.
  • Understanding and application of all assembly techniques used in weld, torch, plasma, etc.
  • Thorough understanding and application of welding and cutting processes required in manufacturing of product.
  • Understanding and application of robotic welding including but not limited to: basic programming, clearing faults, troubleshooting faults, basic computer programming for robotic weld cells, ability to train new employees on robot.
  • Thorough understanding of welding and cutting gases and welding electrodes.
  • Change over product verification and first article inspection.
  • Troubleshoot errors with the assistance of maintenance or programmer.
  • Performing maintenance and/or 5S housekeeping per established schedules.
  • Hand tool usage is required, but not limited to: calipers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment as required.
  • Work and communicate in a team environment.
  • Preform all assigned tasks in a safe, efficient, timely, accurate, and highly productive manner according to company policy.
  • Contribute to the team effort to produce a quality product.
  • Attend scheduled work hours on a regular and timely basis. Maintain good attendance.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
