About The Position

The Canadian External Relations Group is looking to add a Team Lead, Indigenous Relations to lead their Southern Alberta Indigenous Relations Team. This position will manage the day-to-day work of the Indigenous Relations teams in Southern Alberta, focusing on an outcomes-based approach to engagement with Indigenous communities. The role requires a dynamic, thoughtful, adaptable, responsible, and team-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at building relationships, is a strong collaborator, and is outcomes-oriented. The position involves managing a geographically disparate team that spends significant time in Indigenous communities near TC Energy's assets. Effective Indigenous economic participation and engagement are crucial to TC Energy's approach to reconciliation. This role requires close collaboration with relevant TC Energy business units across leadership levels.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in a related field
  • 10 years of related experience working in the energy, mining, forestry, or other capital-intensive sectors in people-facing roles or experience in government, including Indigenous governments
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience engaging with Indigenous Nations and working with representatives and community members to resolve complex and often contentious issues
  • Proven people-leadership and development skills; able to lead programs with strong resource management abilities
  • Direct experience and in-depth knowledge of Indigenous Relations issues, concerns and approaches to create opportunities to generate mutual benefit
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
  • All applicants must have legal authorization to work in the country where the position is based, without restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Build support and generate advocacy from Indigenous groups by aligning interests of Indigenous groups with TC Energy for shared success and prosperity
  • Lead, mentor, and build a high performing team of engagement professionals to provide timely, financially responsible, coordinated, and flexible support to business units and functional groups
  • Provide leadership and innovation in the development, continuous improvement, and implementation of various engagement plans and strategies to support TC Energy’s objectives.
  • Collaborate with, and garner support from, internal business partners
  • Seek out and build mutually beneficial relationships between Indigenous groups and TC Energy to deliver sustainable and responsible business results
  • Actively support teams with the execution of solutions that address Indigenous groups concerns
  • Oversee the tracking and reporting functions and develop regular reports on company progress toward objectives and commitments made in agreements with Indigenous Peoples
  • Represent the company in both Indigenous Communities and public settings
  • Collaborate with Indigenous Relations team members and business unit counterparts to prioritize and manage business objectives and risks
  • Develop and monitor budgets and resource allocations
  • Develop briefing notes and make recommendations to Senior Management regarding budget and resource requirements, as needed
