As an Advisor – Indigenous and Community Relations, you will play a key role both externally and internally by supporting the development of strategic, long-term, and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous partners, local communities, governments, and stakeholders. You will contribute to effective engagement and, when appropriate, consultation processes across the full lifecycle of Innergex’s assets. This role is essential in ensuring that the company meets its commitments to Indigenous partners and local communities while supporting development projects primarily in the South-Central Interior and Okanagan regions of British Columbia.

Requirements

  • Completion of relevant post-secondary education in political science, Indigenous history, Indigenous rights and title, public relations, communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in the electricity and/or energy sector and working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities
  • Experience leading projects and engaging with external partners
  • Strong understanding of how to build trust-based, durable relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to navigate complex or difficult conversations, find common ground, and resolve conflicts while preserving relationships
  • Strong strategic thinking skills combined with the ability to manage urgent and evolving priorities
  • Ability to identify, contextualize, and analyze risks associated with the role
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple timelines and projects
  • Passion for the positive impact of renewable energy projects for Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities
  • Valid BC driver’s license in good standing
  • Proficiency in English, spoken and written

Responsibilities

  • Support relationship building and maintenance with Indigenous partners, Indigenous communities, municipal governments, and local stakeholders in assigned regions
  • Act as a key point of contact, providing “one-window access” to Innergex for Indigenous partners and local communities
  • Maintain subject matter expertise on Indigenous history, rights and title, treaties, traditional protocols, UNDRIP, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, as well as relevant federal and provincial legislation and policies
  • Collaborate with internal teams to maintain positive relationships and ensure compliance with contractual and legal obligations, while supporting shared opportunities for First Nations communities
  • Advise project teams on strategies to manage and mitigate relationship risks with Indigenous partners and support project success
  • Monitor, coordinate, and report on emerging issues and needs impacting Indigenous partners
  • Track relevant policies, news, and events related to Indigenous Peoples within assigned and relevant regions
  • Plan and coordinate engagement and, where appropriate, consultation processes with Indigenous communities
  • Monitor local government activities and assess potential impacts of policies and regional developments on projects
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop and execute engagement strategies, issue management plans, and local government relations strategies
  • Support project teams in meetings with Indigenous partners and stakeholders, including participation, documentation (minutes, summaries), consultation logs, and follow-up actions
  • Assist in the development and delivery of presentations and engagement materials for internal and external audiences
  • Represent the company at industry, community, and Indigenous events
