About The Position

The Engineering Team Lead is responsible for technical project execution and owning team delivery outcomes, as well as day-to-day operational leadership of a multidisciplinary software development team. This role works closely with Business Unit stakeholders as an individual contributor while ensuring the efficient allocation, utilization, and effectiveness of Engineering staff. The Software Development Team Lead also works in close collaboration with the Software Development Manager to define, implement, and continuously improve best practices across all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle. You will directly influence delivery reliability, team productivity, and software quality by guiding day-to-day execution, removing blockers, and driving adherence to engineering standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Proven technical team leadership abilities including on and offshore multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience working with a variety of software development languages
  • Experience with service-oriented architecture and design principles
  • Experience with relational and non-relational database design
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization
  • Exceptionally self-motivated, accountable, and detail-oriented
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Foster and maintain a positive, accountable, and collaborative work environment to motivate Engineering staff
  • Own team delivery outcomes, ensuring commitments are met with expected quality, velocity, and reliability
  • Contribute to the definition, adoption, and enforcement of best practices for all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Identify, track, and report on key engineering performance indicators (quality, velocity, productivity, delivery reliability)
  • Collaborate with Business Unit stakeholders to align priorities and allocate resources based on business objectives
  • Provide day-to-day functional oversight and leadership for Engineering staff
  • Identify and remove obstacles that prevent the team from meeting delivery commitments
  • Provide continuous performance feedback through regular one-on-one meetings
  • Conduct formal performance reviews for staff as per the schedule defined by Human Resources
  • Develop training plans to address business needs and support ongoing growth of staff
  • Actively participate in the recruitment process to grow the Engineering organization
  • Manage onboarding of new software developers and interns to accelerate contribution
  • Maintain visibility into team health, skills, and knowledge depth, addressing gaps where needed
  • Design and develop software applications from business and technical specifications
  • Develop and execute unit, component, and integration level tests to verify requirements are met
  • Ensure adherence to coding standards and test coverage targets to maintain product quality
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues and delivery risks for assigned projects
  • Collaborate with architects and stakeholders on solution design and technical direction
  • Contribute to the creation of technical and end user product documentation
