About The Position

Ambient.ai is hiring a Team Lead, Ecosystems to lead the engineers responsible for connecting its platform to customers’ Physical Access Control Systems (PACS) and expanding into new access control capabilities. The role owns both the team and the partner relationships behind its work. The team maintains production integrations customers rely on and develops new access control products from early, ambiguous starting points. The lead sets direction and priorities across both areas, with reliability central to the role because Ambient Access Intelligence alarms depend on these integrations. This is a player-coach position: the lead will manage and grow a small team, stay close to the code to make architecture decisions, and represent Ambient.ai with partner engineering and product leaders. The role reports into EPD leadership. Ambient.ai develops an AI-powered physical security platform that integrates with existing security cameras and physical access control systems. The company was founded in 2017 and is backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Y Combinator, and Allegion Ventures.

Requirements

  • Deep experience with access control systems, from the software side (such as at a PACS vendor, cloud access control company, or integrator engineering team) or hardware side (such as locks, readers, controllers, or credentials).
  • At least 6 years of software engineering experience.
  • At least 2 years managing engineers or leading a team as a tech lead with people responsibilities.
  • Track record of shipping and operating integrations with third-party systems and building something new from an early, ambiguous starting point.
  • Experience owning technical relationships with external partners, including scoping joint work, negotiating access and support, and resolving escalations while maintaining the relationship.
  • Strong backend and distributed systems judgment, including systems spanning customer-site hardware and the cloud.
  • Clear communication with engineers, product leaders, partner executives, and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with PACS, lock, or credential platforms such as LenelS2, C-CURE 9000, Genetec, or Brivo.
  • Experience building or leading a cloud-managed access control product end-to-end, including controllers, credentials, and mobile access.
  • Working knowledge of access control protocols and standards such as OSDP, Wiegand, BLE, and NFC mobile credentials.
  • IoT platform experience, including device provisioning, fleet management, firmware updates, and MQTT.
  • Familiarity with enterprise security buyers and compliance expectations such as SOC 2, audit trails, and role-based access.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, manage, and develop a team of backend and integration engineers, setting a high bar for ownership of production systems.
  • Allocate team capacity between integration delivery and new product development, adjusting as priorities change.
  • Review designs, unblock difficult debugging, and write code when it will help the team move fastest.
  • Own the PACS integration roadmap with product, including partner selection, capability development, and reliability of existing integrations.
  • Establish production operating practices for integrations, including monitoring, on-call, partner escalation paths, and regression testing against partner releases.
  • Define architecture and milestones for new access control capabilities, including device communication, credential management, cloud services, and APIs.
  • Serve as the primary engineering contact for PACS and hardware partners, from technical scoping through joint roadmap planning.
  • Negotiate API access, SDK support, test hardware, and escalation commitments, and hold partners accountable to those commitments.
  • Represent Ambient.ai in partner technical reviews and joint customer escalations, and incorporate partner learnings into product strategy.

Benefits

  • Regular full-time employees receive stock options.
  • Comprehensive health and welfare package, including medical, dental, vision, life, EAP, legal services, and a 401(k) plan.
  • Flexible time off, including a Winter Break between Christmas and New Year’s for most roles, depending on customer demand.
  • Latest technology and company swag delivered to employees’ doors.
  • Opportunities to connect with co-workers.
