The Team Leader is a key leadership role within the department, supporting Team Members and the Supervisor. This position is crucial for driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale through problem-solving tools. The Team Leader's primary responsibility is to enhance team performance and is not tied to specific machinery. The duties listed below provide context and may vary by department.

Responsibilities

Support Team Members and Supervisor.
Continuously improve performance in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale using continuous improvement problem-solving tools.
Help improve team performance.
Communicate with shift leadership before the shift begins.
Understand staffing needs and priority products.
Populate the assignment board or assist leadership in doing so.
Confirm Autonomous Maintenance Sheets are completed where applicable.
Assist in shift start-up and removing obstacles to timely start-up (e.g., material availability, setup completion).
Review previous days’ production metrics.
Cover absenteeism as required, after exhausting other alternatives.
Engage in communication with each operator in the assigned area throughout the shift.
Review and sign off on Hour By Hour charts/production sheets for accuracy.
Visually check parts produced for conformance.
Measure parts where applicable.
Fill out required production charts or boards in the assigned area.
Ensure standard work is being followed.
Escalate issues to the Supervisor regarding roadblocks, quality concerns, or material delivery issues.
Lead problem-solving initiatives as required.
Ensure shadow boards are properly stocked/maintained and items are placed within defined footprints.
Perform first piece approvals and/or setups where applicable.
Verify that gauges have the proper calibration stickers.
Assist operators when assistance is required or beneficial to sustain flow.
Ensure a safe, clean, and organized work environment is maintained (Quality and Safety audits).
Ensure raw material is available for the shift and staged properly.
Communicate with the incoming Team Lead of the assigned area at the end of the shift.
Gather data for scrap review and ensure scrap review documentation is properly completed.
Complete production charts or boards to be maintained in the assigned area.
Review the orderliness of each operation area and sign off on 5S checklists.
Set up the next shift for success (e.g., order material, sequence orders, ensure setups are completed).
Review training progress throughout the day for operators in training.
Ensure trainees feel welcome and comfortable.
Review training guides.
Ensure operators follow Standard Work.
