About The Position

The Customs Team Lead will be responsible for leading a team of customs brokers to ensure timely and compliant customs clearance of shipments. They will also be responsible for developing and implementing customs compliance procedures and ensuring that all team members are trained on relevant customs regulations. The team lead will also be responsible for transactions with U.S. Customs (CBP) concerning the entry and admissibility of merchandise. This includes conducting effective research, communicating with the client and/or CBP, managing Customs entries, monitoring clearance, and recordkeeping.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as logistics, international business, or supply chain management
  • At least 5 years of experience in customs brokerage or related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of customs regulations and procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and customs clearance software is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Customs broker license preferred
  • Experience working in the transportation and logistics industry
  • Experience working with international shipments and customs clearance
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of customs brokers to ensure timely and compliant customs clearance of shipments
  • Develop and implement customs compliance procedures and ensure team members are trained on relevant customs regulations
  • Work closely with customers, carriers, and other internal departments to ensure smooth customs clearance processes
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on customs regulations and provide guidance to team members and customers as needed
  • Manage customs audits and other compliance activities
  • Monitor and analyze customs compliance metrics and develop action plans to address any issues or areas for improvement
  • Maintain relationships with customs authorities and stay up-to-date on changes in regulations and procedures
  • Review of Customs documents to be filed with CBP ensuring accuracy.
  • Verify classification and valuation with the importer when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with customs regulations.
  • Obtain the appropriate documents required to support claims or disclaims.
  • Ensure the proper and timely payment of duties, taxes, or other charges assessed or collected by CBP on merchandise by reason of its importation.
  • Maintain documents required under 19 CFR 163.
  • Monitor and track customs clearances and resolve any delays or issues.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, clients, customs brokers, and government agencies to resolve customs-related issues.
