About The Position

The Team Leader role typically incorporates Community Support Worker functions and some component of operational and/or organizational leadership as highlighted below. This position requires an individual who has demonstrated skills and experience in SIL and residential programs with the ability to delegate and coordinate the day-to-day roles/responsibilities of other team members, under the guidance of the Supported Living Supervisor. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people supported, families, staff and other partners of the community.

Requirements

  • DSW College Diploma or an equivalent diploma or degree in social sciences. Minimum two-year college program; and/or Curative Education and Social Therapy diploma or equivalent Camphill seminar and experience.
  • Related formal education or a minimum of 3 years' experience in a residential setting working with developmentally disabled individuals.
  • Effective communication skills, good interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Positive attitude, reliable, flexible and self-motivated
  • Must be successfully trained in and possess current certifications in CPR, NVCI, First Aid, and Medication Administration
  • Hold a Valid, Ontario G license, access to a reliable vehicle and insurance.
  • Current Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

Responsibilities

  • Assists with delegation amongst coworkers regarding roles, routines, schedules and work assignments.
  • Provides new coworkers with orientation as to their specific house responsibilities, routines and other pertinent information.
  • Is professional in approach, seeks assistance and information as needed
  • Acting as a backup for designated Supervisor (s)
  • Participates in House meetings, relevant community meetings and CCO business meetings as required.
  • Is aware of the needs of other houses and extends help and support as needed to create and maintain harmony in all CCO programs/services.
  • Acting in the role of a liaison between direct support professionals and the management team.
  • Participates in and encourages discussion pertaining to CCO Mission and Values
  • Performs weekend "on-call" duties on a rotational basis and ensures proper follow-up actions are taken.
  • Responsible for the health and well-being of each Individual in his/her house, or care in accordance with CCO's policies & procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information pertaining to individuals being supported.
  • Ensures that Individual rights are maintained, explained, encouraged and respected
  • Participates in Person Centered Planning and assists in the implementation of Individual Support Plans by respectfully supporting them.
  • In collaboration with Supervisor and team members, plans and carries out activities to encourage growth and independence of Individuals.
  • Providing support to Individuals in areas of personal hygiene, meal preparation, house cleaning, day personal/social living skills, leisure/recreation activities and personal finances according to individual needs.
  • Administer medication to Individuals in accordance with medication administration procedure.
  • Establish and carry out a program of routines/activities in consultation with Res. Coordinator
  • Serve as an advocate for each Individual, to ensure that their needs are met and that the rights of every Individual are respected
  • Participates in the Person-Centred Planning process, and under the guidance of the Supervisor, ensures and follows through with action plans to support each Individual in attaining their goals.
  • Work with and maintain positive relationships with families and the community
  • Creates opportunities and encourages contact and social interaction with families, friends and other support networks.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely documentation;
  • Petty cash administration and regular balancing where applicable
  • Oversee the POM binders and ensure regular updating by support staff
  • All health and safety compliance-related activity and documentation
  • Assist the Supervisor in developing the Team meeting agenda and taking minutes
  • Incident reports, Serious Occurrence Reports, MARS errors and Maintenance issues
  • Any other documentation, as delegated by the Supervisor
  • Adhere to applicable Legislation; the Occupational Health and Safety Act, AODA, WHMIS, Employment Standards Act (ESA), MCCSS, The Canadian Human Rights Act.
  • Ensuring completion of required inspections and drills, and the wearing/using of necessary protective equipment by coworkers.
  • Ensures work locations are clean and provides Supervisor with recommendations concerning repairs, maintenance, renovations or improvements of work locations as required.
  • Immediately reports accidents and near misses and ensures completion of health and safety action reports as required.
  • Responsible for household maintenance, cleanliness and safety of the house, inside and outside.
  • Be conscious of aesthetics and work to create an environment that supports Individuals' growth and development.
  • Ensures that meals are well planned, nutritious, and balanced, using organic products and local produce as much as possible, and respecting Individuals' dietary needs.
  • Participates in relevant professional training/education/self-development
  • Team Leaders are expected, at all times, to demonstrate professional conduct and accountability.
  • Professionally conducts self at all times.
  • Maintains confidentiality of a person with a developmental disability, staff and agency information at all times.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and development.
  • Contributes positively to team members utilizing tact, diplomacy and compromise.
  • Organizes and plans own areas of responsibilities; independently setting work and task priorities; tasks completed by target date without unnecessary follow by Supervisor
  • Adapts working hours to respond to the needs of a person with a developmental disability as well as meet location needs, as required; works Statutory Holidays, and weekends on a scheduled basis.
  • Promoting a positive image of Camphill Communities Ontario.
  • Maintaining a good rapport with outside agencies and services.
  • Maintaining an appropriate relationship with families.
  • Encouraging people being supported in maintaining a positive/appropriate image in the community.
  • Assist in ensuring that the exterior of the homes is maintained in an acceptable, clean and presentable manner so that a positive image of CCO is portrayed within the community.
  • Establishing and maintaining an excellent working relationship and rapport with people being supported and staff within the organization.
  • Working as a team member with all CCO staff.
  • Attending staff meetings and offering constructive suggestions.
  • Respecting, supporting and cooperating with all Camphill Communities Ontario programs.
  • Supporting the achievement of personal outcomes as identified for each individual
  • Promoting personal growth, inclusion and community participation

  • Performing any other assigned tasks or duties as required or directed by the immediate Supervisor and persons above that position.
