Specialist - Teacher-Fixed Term
About The Position
The College of Engineering at Michigan State University invites applications for a fixed-term Teaching Specialist in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. This is a 4-and-a-half-month appointment for the Spring 2027 semester, with primary responsibilities in teaching and service and an anticipated teaching load of one course. The role supports undergraduate education and contributes to high-quality instruction, student learning, and the development of instructional laboratories and course content. The university seeks a candidate committed to teaching excellence and interested in developing a long-term academic career focused on instruction and student engagement. The Teaching Specialist will teach an undergraduate Computer Science and Engineering Capstone course and its associated laboratory sections, communicate course content and expectations effectively, support an engaging and inclusive learning environment, guide graduate teaching assistants, and contribute to departmental service aligned with the instructional mission. The appointment is fixed term and begins in Spring 2027.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
- At least one year of teaching experience.
Nice To Haves
- PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
- Some teaching and/or industrial experience.
Responsibilities
- Teach an undergraduate Computer Science and Engineering Capstone course and associated laboratory sections during the academic year.
- Communicate course content and expectations effectively to undergraduate students, fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with and provide guidance to graduate teaching assistants to support course delivery.
- Contribute to departmental service activities aligned with the instructional mission.
- Support student learning and contribute to the development of instructional laboratories and course content.
