About The Position

Xavier University’s proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine (XUCOM) invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenure-track Chair of the Division of Internal Medicine beginning Summer 2026. This is a senior academic leadership opportunity for an experienced physician-educator who is passionate about shaping the next generation of osteopathic physicians. As Division Chair, the successful candidate will lead the integration of Internal Medicine faculty into the medical curriculum, oversee third-year Internal Medicine clerkships, mentor faculty and students, and contribute to accreditation excellence. This role is central to building a mission-driven medical school grounded in Jesuit Catholic traditions and Osteopathic Principles and Practice. This is a 0.8 FTE academic appointment with Xavier University. The Chair is expected to maintain clinical privileges and provide patient care approximately one day per week at a partner health system.

Requirements

  • DO or MD degree.
  • Current AOA or ABMS board certification in Internal Medicine.
  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Ohio (or ability to obtain prior to start).
  • Eligibility for clinical privileges at a partner health system.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in undergraduate or graduate medical education.
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical practice experience in Internal Medicine.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring faculty.
  • Experience developing assessment items for NBOME or NBME.
  • Experience contributing to accreditation processes.
  • Budget management experience in an academic or healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of Internal Medicine curricular content across the preclinical and clinical years.
  • Serve as Clinical Clerkship Director for third-year Internal Medicine rotations.
  • Mentor and evaluate division faculty and medical students, including career advising and residency preparation.
  • Ensure divisional compliance with COCA accreditation standards and support institutional strategic goals.
  • Oversee divisional operations, including faculty FTE distribution, committee assignments, and budget administration.
  • Contribute to scholarship, participate in faculty governance, advise student organizations, and support the broader mission of the College.
