About The Position

The Teaching & Learning Manager serves as Black Men Teach's instructional leader responsible for coaching, developing, and supporting Teaching Fellows throughout their educator journey. This role ensures Fellows receive high-quality instructional coaching, meaningful professional learning experiences, and individualized support that strengthen classroom practice, educator identity, and long-term success in the teaching profession. Reporting to the Director of Postsecondary Success, the Teaching & Learning Manager leads the day-to-day delivery of instructional coaching, professional learning, and educator development for Teaching Fellows. Working closely with program staff, partner schools, mentor teachers, and organizational leaders, this role ensures Fellows receive consistent, high-quality instructional support from educator preparation through early-career success. The ideal candidate is an experienced educator, instructional coach, and relationship builder who believes deeply in culturally responsive teaching, continuous learning, and developing exceptional Black male educators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in K–12 education, instructional coaching, teacher development, or educational leadership.
  • Demonstrated success improving teacher practice and student outcomes.
  • Experience facilitating adult learning and professional development.
  • Knowledge of teacher licensure pathways, educator development, and instructional best practices.
  • Experience conducting classroom observations and providing coaching and feedback.
  • Strong relationship-building, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and educational equity.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Current or previous instructional coaching experience.
  • Experience supporting educator residency or teacher preparation programs.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota educator licensure requirements.
  • Experience working with historically underserved communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized instructional coaching to Teaching Fellows, student teachers, residents, and early-career educators.
  • Design and deliver instructional coaching that is intentionally aligned with Black Men Teach's professional learning curriculum, educator development model, and instructional priorities.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations and site visits to assess instructional practice, provide actionable feedback, and support educator growth.
  • Develop individualized coaching plans aligned with educator goals, classroom performance, licensure requirements, and the Black Men Teach Tenets.
  • Facilitate practice-based coaching experiences that allow Fellows to apply, reflect, receive feedback, and refine essential instructional skills.
  • Differentiate coaching and implement targeted support strategies that strengthen educator effectiveness, advance Fellows toward proficiency in the Black Men Teach Tenets, and promote long-term retention.
  • Design, coordinate, and facilitate engaging professional learning experiences throughout the year.
  • Lead Teaching Fellowship Orientation, New Teacher Readiness, and other onboarding experiences.
  • Develop learning opportunities that strengthen instructional practice, leadership capacity, culturally responsive teaching, and professional identity.
  • Support retreats, convenings, learning communities, and cohort experiences that build belonging and collaboration.
  • Ensure all professional learning reflects Black Men Teach's instructional philosophy and organizational values.
  • Promote consistent, high-quality instructional practices across the Teaching Fellowship.
  • Develop and maintain coaching resources, observation tools, instructional frameworks, and educator support materials.
  • Standardize coaching practices and documentation to ensure consistency across Fellows and school sites.
  • Monitor instructional trends and recommend improvements that strengthen educator effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with program leaders to continuously enhance the quality of the Teaching Fellowship experience.
  • Conduct recurring school and site visits to strengthen relationships with partner schools and provide on-site coaching and support.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partner schools, principals, instructional leaders, and mentor teachers.
  • Communicate regularly with school partners regarding Fellow progress, support needs, and instructional development.
  • Collaborate with school leaders to align coaching support with school expectations and educator growth goals.
  • Represent Black Men Teach as a trusted instructional partner committed to educator excellence.
  • Support educator placement, retention, and long-term success through collaborative school partnerships.
  • Monitor Fellow engagement, instructional growth, licensure progress, and retention using organizational performance measures.
  • Partner with the Senior Director of Impact & Evaluation to review coaching outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate coaching documentation, observation records, and professional learning participation.
  • Use performance data and participant feedback to strengthen coaching practices and educator support.
  • Provide regular reports and recommendations to organizational leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Postsecondary Success to align instructional coaching with educator preparation and licensure milestones.
  • Partner with the Director of Secondary Programs & Educator Pathways to support educator identity development and pathway experiences.
  • Work alongside the Director of Collective Impact & Partnerships to strengthen relationships with partner schools and districts.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives, organizational events, and strategic priorities.
  • Champion Black Men Teach's mission, values, and commitment to educational excellence and educational equity.
