About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for PSYC 2P36, Foundations of Brain and Behaviour, for the Fall D2-1 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. The role involves leading seminars, proctoring and grading assignments, holding office hours, and assisting students with course material. Compensation varies based on the employee's degree qualifications, with rates effective September 1, 2026. The nominal workload is either 120 or 180 hours per half credit course appointment, typically involving 2 or 3 seminars respectively. Duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement.

Requirements

  • Must have completed or be enrolled in PSYC 5Y51/52 or PSYC 7Y51/52/53 OR Minimum 3rd Year complete and currently enrolled in a PSYC BA or BSc program, with an average of at least 80
  • Have taken PSYC/NEUR 2P35/2P36/2P37 or a full course equivalent in biological psychology and achieved a grade of at least 80
  • Demonstrate a clear and thorough understanding of all aspects of the course, including neuroanatomy and function, to clearly explain all course topics
  • Have strong writing and editing skills and a thorough understanding of APA writing style
  • Have the interpersonal qualities to be supportive of students and effective in leading group discussion
  • Have strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to keep accurate records/manage data
  • Have excellent time management skills in order to cover the required course material during the available seminar/lab or tutorial time
  • Be adept at providing feedback to students in a constructive manner
  • Be able and willing to maintain contact with the instructor, fellow teaching assistants and enrolled students by email and by audio-video conferencing and/or in-person meetings and to conduct seminars and office hours via audio-video conferencing and/or in-person meetings
  • Be available for on-campus activities during all scheduled lecture times

  • Previous successful experience as a TA in this course in an academic setting will be considered as equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Attending lectures, assigned seminars, labs or tutorials on a weekly basis
  • Attending TA meetings as scheduled
  • Preparation of seminar materials
  • Proctoring and grading assignments, tests and examinations in a timely manner, and providing supportive and instructive written feedback
  • Holding office hours and answering student emails outside of scheduled student contact time
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Helping students overcome difficulties that they may encounter when dealing with course material
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Instructor
