Requirements

  • Knowledge/experience in social policy and social services in Canada.
  • Knowledge/experience in the impact of policies and organizational structures on service users and social workers.
  • Knowledge/experience in the connection between social work theory and research, governmental and institutional policy and direct practice.
  • Knowledge/experience in the relationship between social location and social policy.
  • Knowledge/experience in how social policies define, confine and shape practice and the ways in which social ideology, discourse and oppression intersect to shape practice at societal, institutional and individual levels.
  • Knowledge/experience in the impact of social policies and programs on the lives of people and the role of social workers in these arenas.
  • Knowledge/experience in issues of access and equity in human services.
  • Knowledge/experience in the link between socio-political and policy analysis to organizational governance and social work practice.
  • Knowledge/experience in strategies for developing thoughtful and critical practice including those related to individual and systemic change, and communication and understanding in worker-client relationships.
  • Knowledge/experience in the development and implementation of social policies.
  • Knowledge/experience in special topics including homelessness, aging, health, child welfare, poverty, housing, multiculturalism policy, and refugee and immigration policy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the course SWRK 428 - Social Policy & Administration.
  • Engage with students on topics including social policy and social services in Canada, the impact of policies and organizational structures on service users and social workers, the connection between social work theory and research, governmental and institutional policy and direct practice, relationship between social location and social policy, how social policies define, confine and shape practice and the ways in which social ideology, discourse and oppression intersect to shape practice at societal, institutional and individual levels, the impact of social policies and programs on the lives of people and the role of social workers in these arenas, issues of access and equity in human services, link between socio-political and policy analysis to organizational governance and social work practice, strategies for developing thoughtful and critical practice including those related to individual and systemic change, and communication and understanding in worker-client relationships, the development and implementation of social policies, and special topics including homelessness, aging, health, child welfare, poverty, housing, multiculturalism policy, and refugee and immigration policy.
