About The Position

Teaching Assistant positions for the Summer 2026 semester in the course 'Exploring the World of STEM' (YCSC 010). These positions are open to McGill University Graduate Students and are tentative pending final determination of course offerings and enrolments. The role involves assisting the course lecturer with all aspects of the course, including attending classes, preparing tutorials, consulting with the lecturer, assisting students with learning and inquiries, managing online course components, conducting virtual tutorials, holding virtual office hours, assisting with grading, and ensuring confidentiality. Requirements

  • Must be a current Masters or PhD student at McGill University in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Prior demonstrable study in the subject matter of the course
  • Experience using myCourses
  • Excellent overall academic performance
  • Must have good command of the English language and good communication skills
  • Strong teaching skills
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada
  • Willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located

Responsibilities

  • Attend all classes in course
  • Read required material and any secondary material necessary for preparation of tutorials and class discussions
  • Consult and communicate with course lecturer
  • Assist students learning
  • Effectively communicate with students
  • Respond to student inquiries by email, myCourses, Microsoft Teams or Zoom
  • Assist during classes
  • Online course management including leading discussion groups, monitoring the discussion board and responding to questions
  • Conduct 3 hours of virtual (online) tutorials per week
  • Hold virtual office hours
  • Assist students with course material and assessments or exercises
  • Assist with grading of exams and other course assessments
  • Be present during midterms and other exams
  • Ensure confidentiality regarding course-related matters
  • Respect and treat all students equally
