About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant for the course SOCI 3P12 - Quantitative Data Analysis II. The compensation for Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions is paid according to the qualifications the employee holds. Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour. Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate of $36.67 per hour. In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time, such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent)
  • Proficient in statistical software using R-Studio
  • Demonstrated teaching competence (e.g., summary of previous course evaluations, faculty evaluations)
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines, recognizing that there are periods of intensive work associated with the position.

  • It is the applicant's responsibility to demonstrate how his/her degree and training are equivalent.
  • For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00). For courses taken elsewhere, provide a transcript (a copy of your course and grade summary from your student selfserve at that institution is sufficient); highlight the course and provide the course description. Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.
