About The Position

YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support classroom instruction within one of its workforce development departments (Healthcare, Culinary, or Building Trades). This role involves assisting instructors in creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences for young adults aged 17-21. The Teaching Assistant will provide individualized and small-group support, help prepare and maintain classroom materials and equipment, and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and professional learning environment. YouthBuild Philadelphia is a tuition-free, public charter high school dedicated to supporting youth aged 17-20 who have been pushed out of traditional schools, aiming to empower them to attain their high school diploma and vocational certifications while disrupting the cycle of poverty and fostering post-secondary success.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Support classroom instruction in one of three workforce development departments (Healthcare, Building Trades, or Culinary) by assisting with hands-on learning activities, projects and skill-building exercises.
  • Provide individualized and small-group support to students ages 17-21, reinforcing lessons, clarifying instructions, and encouraging active participation.
  • Collaborate closely with the instructor on record to ensure consistent instructional support across two cohorts of students.
  • Assist with preparing, organizing, and maintaining classroom materials, tools, and equipment to create a safe, efficient, and engaging learning environment.
  • Help maintain a positive and productive classroom environment by modeling professional behavior, addressing disruptions appropriately, and supporting a respective, inclusive environment.
  • Monitor student progress during classroom activities, offering constructive feedback and report observations to the classroom instructors.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning sessions with teachers and other program staff.
  • Provide mentorship to a cohort of 2-3 students, offering consistent academic and personal support to help them stay on track toward meeting graduation requirements, as needed.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Workforce Instructor(s) or Director of Workforce Development.
