About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the COMM 3P19: Media Policy course for the Fall D2 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. Compensation for Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator positions is determined by the employee's qualifications. Employees without a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Employees with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate of $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Additional duties required of a Teaching Assistant will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement, and include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparing seminar material, student consultation, marking, grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • An Honours BA in Communication Studies, or an equivalent program, is required.
  • Candidates must have completed the course in question, or a university-level equivalent, with a minimum final grade of 75%.
  • If seeking consideration for an equivalency, the candidate must identify the course and supply two documents: (1) a copy of the course outline and (2) the candidate's transcript showing the course and grade. Failure to provide one or both documents will result in an incomplete application.
  • Candidates must supply evidence of strong writing skills (i.e., university-level papers, relevant awards, or publications).
  • Candidates must have strong interpersonal and group communication skills.
  • Candidates must demonstrate professionalism when supporting course content, leading seminars, and meeting deadlines.
