About The Position

The Teaching Assistant ensures all children are appropriately chaperoned and never left unattended in all situations such as facility, transportation, playground, or community outing. They assist in establishing and implementing an appropriate active learning environment, and aid in the use of Teaching Strategies Gold On-line as an assessment tool and entering data into the system three times per program year. The role also involves aiding in establishing a daily routine consistent with Creative Curriculum, maintaining a positive learning environment, modeling positive behavior, and engaging in positive adult-child interactions. The Teaching Assistant observes and assesses children, developing and implementing appropriate lesson plans pursuant to the required timeline using the Individual Program Room Self-Assessment Plan for developing strategies to enhance outcomes. They assist in establishing home and centers communications by encouraging parent participation, and participate in periodic home visits and parent teacher conferences. Daily health routines including potty training and hand washing are practiced, along with following emergency procedures if needed. Records and updates all associated records including screenings, which must be completed within the first 45 days of service. The Teaching Assistant acts in the capacity of a teacher during the teacher’s absence. They meet the bus at or before the first pick-up and ride the bus for the entire bus run of the designated session, ensuring all children have reached their destination. Assistance is provided with fastening children into harnesses on the bus and attaching name tags on the go-home run when not riding the bus with children. The role involves riding the bus as required going home and ensuring active participation by the children while on the bus. Additional responsibilities include eating with children as needed, sharing the same menu while demonstrating socially acceptable behaviors and manners. When in an assigned center, they eat with children as needed sharing the same menu and provide assistance as needed at the center. Evening meetings are attended and participation in job-related training is required. The program procedures relating to confidentiality are followed. Overnight travel may be required. The role is a Mandated Child Abuse/Neglect reporter and must pass initial and tri-annual physical exams and TB screenings.

Requirements

Working knowledge of computers, including MS Word, Excel, and other related programs.
Working knowledge of social service systems.
Proficient oral and written communication skills including effective listening skills.
Ability to deal tactfully with the public.
Working knowledge of outcome-based services.
Knowledge of Creative Curriculum.
Knowledge of State Learning Standards.
Knowledge of CLASS.
Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certification.
Current Child Development Associate Credential (CDA); OR Completion of at least 2 years of postsecondary study with a minimum of 60 college credits; OR Associate degree or Higher (Required)
Current PA driver’s license and reliable transportation. (Required)
Free of Child Abuse/Neglect history as verified by proper authorities. (Required)
Must obtain Child Abuse, PA State Police, FBI Fingerprinting and NSOR Clearances prior to starting employment. (Required)
Must meet vaccination requirements set by funding sources. (Required)

Nice To Haves

Associate degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE). (Preferred)
Bachelor’s Degree in related field with a minimum of 18 ECE credits. (Preferred)
Minimum one (1) year professional work experience with preschool children. (Preferred)
