About The Position

This role involves assisting teachers in supporting students' academic and behavioral goals within a special education setting. The Teaching Assistant will work with small groups or individual children, help enforce classroom management and behavioral plans, and supervise students during various activities. A key part of the role includes assisting with the preparation of paperwork for ARD/IEP processes and collecting data for special education reports. The position also supports the planning, preparation, and implementation of differentiated instruction.

Requirements

• Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (defined as completion of 48 semester hours) of college course work.
• Possess an associate’s (or higher) degree.
• Meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a local academic assessment — Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) or the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) — verifying knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification.

Responsibilities

• Assists teacher(s) with student academic goals, by working with small groups of children or an individual child.
• Assists teacher(s) in the enforcement of classroom management and behavioral plans, creating an environment that is appropriate for learning.
• Assists with supervising students during breakfast, recess, lunch, dismissal, special events, and programs.
• Assists teacher(s) in the preparation of paperwork for the ARD/IEP process. Collects and enters data for completion of special education reports and documents.
• Assists teacher(s) with the planning, preparation and implementation of differentiated instruction for individual students and groups.
• Other duties as assigned.
