About The Position
The Department of Social Work at Palo Alto University (PAU) is seeking a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the SOCW 601N – Anti-Oppression and Culture-Building Practice course. This is a part-time position, up to 10 hours per week, for the Fall 2026 quarter. The TA will support the instructor in various aspects of course management and student support, including assignment review, facilitating discussions, providing tutoring, managing the Canvas course, and assisting with the creation and presentation of teaching materials. The role involves remote duties primarily, with a requirement to be present in person for one day at the start of the quarter during the immersion residency. The course focuses on preparing students for anti-oppressive, anti-racist, anti-sexist, and culture-building social work practice, examining historical and contemporary patterns of oppression and promoting social justice.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled PhD or PsyD student in good standing at PAU in your 2nd or 3rd year of study.
- Advanced understanding of the subject matter (Anti-Oppression and Culture-Building Practice).
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Able to create a comfortable learning environment for students
- A strong work ethic, dependable, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and follow through in a timely manner.

Responsibilities
- Support review and assessment of student assignments
- Moderate the classroom environment with technical assistance and organize student learning and engagement
- Facilitate group discussions and activities
- Provide tutoring and hold office hours
- Manage Canvas course, creation of Tasks and Assignments
- Helping with creating/presenting didics and guest lectures if interested
- Making course materials accessible
- Support proctoring exams
- Creation and presentation of teaching materials
- Carry out duties and responsibilities remotely, except for providing assistance in-person for one day at the start of the quarter during the immersion residency.
- Attend the Teaching Assistant Orientation training.
- Other tasks as assigned, including providing teaching assistance for a BBS licensing course in the MSW program.
