About The Position

This position is for a Teaching Assistant for the course ENVR 200-01, The Global Environment, at McGill University's Bieler School of Environment. The Teaching Assistant will be responsible for grading assignments and exams, managing the student grade database, responding to instructor communications, and holding office hours to assist students. The role requires a solid understanding of quantitative, system-level approaches to earth, atmospheric, and biological science, as well as effective communication skills in English and preferably French. Experience with virtual learning platforms and course webpage management is also necessary.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of quantitative, system-level approaches to earth, atmospheric and biological science
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English
  • Fluency in English sufficient to grade assignments and essay answers on exams
  • Demonstrated experience with the use of a virtual learning platforms (e.g., Zoom, MS Teams, WebEx)
  • Conversant with the material presented in lectures, including systems dynamics, global atmospheric circulation, global biogeochemistry, hydrological cycling, ecosystem interactions, and climate change issues and solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably fluent in French as well

Responsibilities

  • Grades assignments & exams promptly in consultation with instructors
  • Must be available for grading final exam (Usually within a week after last day of classes)
  • Manages the database of student grades
  • Responds promptly to communication from course instructors
  • Holds office hours to respond to student questions following return of assignments & exams
  • Development and posting of material on the course Web page using MyCourses
  • Assist with any remote delivery of course material using virtual learning platforms (e.g., Zoom, MS Teams, WebEx)
