About The Position

This announcement is for a Middle School Life Skills Teacher position for the Summer 2026 Program at Van Sickle Academy, operated by Springfield Public Schools. The position is contingent on enrollment, funding, and programming. The program is scheduled to run from July 6, 2026, to July 30, 2026. Teachers will be responsible for preventing student regression through academic, gross motor, and social skills instruction as outlined in students' IEPs, as well as managing classroom staff and collaborating with other professionals. The role also involves administrative duties such as keeping attendance records, communicating with families, and reporting student progress to their regular schools. Some personal care assistance may be required.

Responsibilities

• Responsible to Head Teacher, Special Education Supervisor, and the Principal
• Keep student attendance records and follow up with absenteeism
• Provide timely information to families and students
• Prevent regression through academic and/or gross motor and/or social skills instruction as outlined in the students’ IEPs
• Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at times designated
• Assume responsibility for the office and clerical work associated with this Extended Year Program
• Communicate student attendance and retention of skills during the Extended Year program to the students’ 2024-2025 schools
• Feed, diaper, and assist with personal hygiene as needed
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Head Teacher of this summer program
