Teachers Aide
About The Position
The Teacher Aide provides non-instructional classroom support to the lead teacher, helps maintain appropriate staff-to-student ratios, and provides hands-on support to students as assigned. The role assists with classroom activities and educational materials, supports students’ daily living and physical care needs, and contributes to a clean, safe, engaging, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive learning environment. The aide collaborates with teachers, skill trainers, clinicians, family workers, and other multidisciplinary team members, and maintains required records and documentation. The position is full-time in Saint Albans, NY, with a Monday–Friday schedule of either 7:30 AM–3:00 PM or 8:00 AM–3:30 PM. The Teacher Aide reports to the classroom teacher for classroom tasks and to the Education Director for overall program duties.
Requirements
- GED or high school diploma.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, including sound judgment and adaptability.
- Professional verbal and written communication, active listening, confidentiality, ethical conduct, and respectful interactions.
- Reliability and accountability, including consistent attendance, timely completion of responsibilities, and adherence to organizational policies and expectations.

Responsibilities
- Assist with non-instructional classroom activities and prepare and organize educational materials.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and engaging learning environment.
- Assist children with arrival and departure, meals, toileting, dressing, mobility, and other physical care needs as directed by classroom staff.
- Support teachers and skill trainers in implementing lesson plans, classroom activities, and individualized strategies that promote student growth and development.
- Foster a positive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive environment that supports children's social-emotional well-being and individualized needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, clinicians, family workers, and other multidisciplinary team members to provide high-quality care and educational services.
- Maintain accurate educational progress reports and other required records.
- Participate in training and professional development activities.
