About The Position

The UNC School of Education is seeking a UNC -Chapel Hill Carolina Community Academy Lab School Teacher. Depending on openings, the teacher may serve in a classroom at kindergarten, first grade, or second grade. This is a ten-month, full-time, teaching position housed on-site at the Carolina Community Academy, starting August 1, 2026. Teachers report to the Carolina Community Academy Principal and may coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants. As an educator, the teacher will foster a culture of innovation that supports effective instructional practices and strategies to promote student academic and personal success for all students. The teacher will work collaboratively with others to facilitate and implement innovative instruction to achieve the school's mission. Collaboration with the Carolina Community Academy Principal, UNC Chapel Hill Carolina Community Academy liaison, and university faculty/staff is expected to support the social-emotional, physical, and academic development of the students.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of public school and university partnerships.
  • Experience as a school-level mentor or clinical teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative, integrated, and inquiry-based lesson plans that are student-centered and based on constructionist approaches.
  • Utilize instructional materials to support evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Understand developmental appropriateness of materials and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Assess the progress of students and use data to inform teaching strategies.
  • Evaluate student performance on a regular basis using formative and summative assessments.
  • Fully understand and follow expectations set forth by the staff handbook.
  • Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.
  • Attend and be fully engaged in staff meetings, PLT (Professional Learning Teams) meetings, and other committee meetings.
  • Engage in opportunities for enhanced professional development to stay current in innovative teaching practices affecting the whole child.
  • Follow a plan for professional development and demonstrate evidence of growth.
