Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Completion of a New York State-approved or registered teacher preparation program in Childhood Education (Grades 1–6), or qualification through another approved certification pathway.
• Completion of required coursework in child development and learning; reading and literacy instruction; mathematics, science, and social studies; classroom management; teaching students with disabilities; English language learners; and curriculum development and instructional planning.
• Pass the applicable New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE), including the Educating All Students (EAS) Test and the Multi-Subject: Teachers of Childhood (Grades 1–6) Content Specialty Test (CST).
