About The Position

The Teacher, Long Term Substitute – Math, 7th Grade teaches the appropriate grade-level, standards-based curriculum to students while the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period. The teacher follows the school- and district-approved curriculum and works to support student achievement and learning. The position involves establishing lesson objectives, delivering instruction using varied methods and technology, assessing and recording student progress, supporting positive behavior, and communicating with families and school staff about students’ academic and behavioral needs.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license; a CDE application receipt may be accepted for 90 days.
Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in the community.
Believe in and support all students so they feel seen and heard and have access to high-quality education.
Maintain a permanent home address in Colorado while working for Denver Public Schools.
Ability, with or without accommodations, to meet the physical demands of the position.

Responsibilities

Counsel students to encourage and support student achievement.
Monitor, supervise, coordinate, and enforce student conduct and behavior rules, and reinforce positive behavior in accordance with school and District policy.
Observe, evaluate, report, and record students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
Prepare educational course outlines, objectives, and materials in accordance with curriculum guidelines and state and local requirements.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
Present subject matter using varied teaching methods and technology, adapting instruction to students’ learning styles.
Teach students individually and in groups using methods such as lectures, technology, and discussions.
Prepare, administer, assign, and grade tests and assignments; evaluate student progress and report grades using District software.
Prepare student, attendance, and activity reports as required by administrators.
Communicate with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to address students’ behavioral and academic problems and coordinate instructional efforts.
