The Teacher will provide an educational atmosphere in which students will move toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and psychological growth and maturation in accordance with District philosophy, goals and objectives. This role requires a Bachelor’s Degree and certification by the State of Florida in the appropriate area. The teacher will establish short and long-range goals based on student needs and District and state curriculum requirements, plan and prepare lessons and strategies, and identify, select, and modify instructional materials to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs. The position involves maintaining a positive, organized, and safe learning environment, managing time, materials, and equipment effectively, and instructing and supervising volunteers and aides. The teacher will also maintain effective record-keeping procedures, use effective student behavior management techniques, and assist in the enforcement of school rules and policies. Participation in the development and implementation of IEP’s, EP’s & 504 Plans for exceptional education students is also required, along with developing effective assessment strategies and interpreting data for diagnosis, instructional planning, and program evaluation. The role includes establishing an appropriate testing environment and test security, demonstrating knowledge of subject matter content, and applying principles of learning and effective teaching. A multimedia approach utilizing a variety of materials and equipment is expected, as are strategies to enhance critical thinking skills and appropriate instructional modifications for students with special needs. The teacher will provide quality work for students that is challenging and relevant, recognize and take appropriate action for indicators of student distress or abuse, and provide instruction on safety procedures. Effective communication with professionals, students, parents, and the community is essential, as is collaboration with others. The teacher will engage in continuous professional growth, conduct periodic self-assessments, and model professional and ethical conduct. Preparation of required reports and support of school improvement initiatives are also key responsibilities.
