About The Position

SEEM Middle School is seeking a dedicated Teacher to develop and implement effective individualized instructional plans in accordance with student IEP goals. The role involves utilizing the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for curriculum development and instruction, employing ongoing assessment strategies for daily planning, and maintaining thorough documentation to share with team members and parents. The position requires an understanding and application of a participative classroom management model and effective collaboration with all stakeholders. The teacher will integrate clinical support services into daily instruction and strive to create a safe, nurturing environment. Responsibilities may include supervising paraprofessionals and contributing to SEEM's professional learning community. Experience with the EBDB population and science instruction is preferred. The role requires the ability to lift/push/pull approximately 40 lbs and move quickly between standing and floor positions, and a willingness to work with verbally and/or physically aggressive students. Employment is contingent upon a positive SAFIS fingerprint and Cori screening.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and DESE certification in special education required.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective individualized instructional plans developed in accordance with the goals and objectives on the student’s IEP.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and ability to use them effectively in the development of curriculum instruction.
  • Thorough working knowledge of assessment strategies and ability to use this knowledge in an ongoing manner to effectively plan from day to day.
  • Understanding of the need for thorough and instructive documentation and ability to share this information with other team members and parents.
  • Understanding and desire to use a participative classroom management model that effectively involves all the stakeholders in the process of planning and implementation.
  • Understanding of the concept of “collaboration” and ability to use the science of this concept effectively in managing the classroom and instruction.
  • Understanding of the part clinical support services play in all the overall education of these students and ability to effectively integrate support services into the planning and delivery of instruction on a daily basis.
  • Strive in every way to create and maintain a safe, nurturing environment for every student.
  • Must be able to lift, pull or push approximately 40 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to move quickly from standing to floor and floor to standing.
  • Willingness to work with verbally and/or physically aggressive students.
  • Employment is contingent upon a positive SAFIS fingerprint and Cori screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with children with intensive special needs in creative, sensitive, and thoughtful ways.
  • Experience with EBDB population.
  • Previous experience, ability, and/or certification in science.
