About The Position

Holyoke Public Schools (HPS) is undergoing a significant transformation and is seeking a Teacher-Visual Arts PK-12 to join their team. This role involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a diverse program of study tailored to individual student needs, and creating a conducive learning environment. The teacher will guide the learning process towards curriculum goals, establish clear objectives for lessons, and implement the district's educational philosophy. Responsibilities include assessing student accomplishments, maintaining accurate records, and being available for parent and student consultations. The position also involves planning and supervising assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, and striving for continuous professional development. The teacher will attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required, in addition to other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least one year of full-time teaching experience
  • Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Massachusetts Certification in Visual Arts, PreK-8

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students and employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and – in harmony with the goals – establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serves on staff committee as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
