About The Position

Provide special education consultation and instruction to meet the needs of eligible students with disabilities. This role involves attending ARD/IEP meetings, completing required paperwork, assisting in developing instructional programs aligned with TEKS or IEP goals, and consulting with regular education teachers. The teacher will also implement appropriate behavior management techniques, administer testing, retain documentation of student progress, and develop Family Service Plans and Individual Transition Plans for students with severe disabilities. Support for integration plans and the application of current educational practices are also key components. Additional duties may include SHARS responsibilities and providing personal care as specified in student IEPs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Valid Texas certificate in appropriate area
  • Ability to work effectively between the school and community

Responsibilities

  • Attend ARD/IEP meetings for students eligible for special education.
  • Complete local, state and federal paper work required for program participation.
  • Assist in developing instructional program for eligible students to achieve mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) at the appropriate levels or IEP goals developed at the ARD meeting.
  • Consult with regular education teachers to assist in providing an appropriate education for eligible students.
  • Provide appropriate behavior management techniques for eligible students.
  • Administer criterion referenced testing as requested by the Special Education Support Staff if appropriate.
  • Retain appropriate documentation of skill development and mastery.
  • Develop and implement a Family Service Plan and Individual Transition Plan for students with severe disabilities.
  • Support the implementation plan for integration.
  • Keep current and be willing to apply the state of the art educational practices.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
  • Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and student teacher(s)
