About The Position

Provides special education consultation and instruction to meet the needs of eligible students with disabilities. Communicates with campus staff, district special education staff, and parents/guardians regarding student needs, including ARD paperwork, IEPs, BIPs, and general progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Valid Texas certificate in the appropriate area.
  • Ability to work effectively between the school and community.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • English & ESL Certification Required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare documents and attend ARD/IEP meetings for students eligible for special education.
  • Complete local, state, and federal paperwork required for program participation.
  • Develop instructional programs for eligible students to achieve mastery of essential knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborate with regular education teachers and related service staff to develop PLAAFP and annual goals/objectives for IEPs and to assist in providing an appropriate education for eligible students.
  • Administer criterion referenced testing.
  • Keep current and apply state-of-the-art educational practices.
  • Oversee the responsibilities of the paraprofessional in implementing student programs, including training in data collection and implementation of specific instructional strategies.
  • Collect and maintain data related to student progress and grades.
  • Report progress on IEP goals/objectives and grades as stipulated by district policy and ARD documents.
  • Provide appropriate behavior management techniques for eligible students.
  • Complete State Assessment requirements for eligible students.
  • Communicate regularly with general education and parents/guardians regarding student progress/needs/concerns.
  • Maintain confidential student records and audit folders.
  • Attend district-required and job-specific trainings and staff development.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
  • Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and student teacher(s).
  • Participate in the Aspiring Assistant Principals Academy.
