About The Position

Provides special education consultation and instruction to meet the needs of eligible students with disabilities. Communicates with campus staff, district special education staff, and parents/guardians regarding student needs, including ARD paperwork, IEPs, BIPs, and general progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Bilingual certification required for respective positions
  • Valid Texas certificate in appropriate area
  • ESL certification required
  • Ability to work effectively between the school and community
  • Effective written & verbal communication skills
  • CPI certification once employed

Responsibilities

  • Prepare documents and attend ARD/IEP meetings for students eligible for special education.
  • Complete local, state, and federal paperwork required for program participation.
  • Develop instructional programs for eligible students to achieve mastery of essential knowledge and skills.
  • Consult with campus staff and related services personnel to provide an appropriate education for eligible students.
  • Provide appropriate behavior management techniques for eligible students.
  • Implement LIFE Skills critical elements checklist for structured environment, instructional strategies, and behavior interventions.
  • Administer criterion-referenced testing to develop PLAAFP (or equivalent) and annual goals/objectives as indicated on student’s IEP.
  • Retain appropriate documentation of skill development and mastery and report progress.
  • Provide non-medical procedures such as tube feeding and other interventions as necessary for the student.
  • Complete State assessment for eligible students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student’s progress and needs/concerns.
  • Oversee the responsibilities of the paraprofessional in implementing student programs.
  • Provide care for students related to hygiene, toileting, and nourishment.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
  • Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and student teacher(s).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
