About The Position

The Teacher Residency Site Coordinator works with a cohort of teacher residents (pre-service teachers) and their mentor teachers. This role supports teacher preparation coursework and the ongoing evaluation of residents’ instructional competency while providing instructional coaching. The position also builds and maintains relationships with residency mentors and supports the development of their coaching and mentoring capacity. This position is a part-time (10-month, August–May), grant-funded position.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in elementary, secondary, special education, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of classroom teaching experience in an elementary, secondary or special education classroom.
  • Must have a current Mississippi Educator Endorsement.
  • Knowledge of educator preparation
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate in a professional environment
  • Skill in database management, including ability to gather, maintain and accurately report data
  • Proficiency in software applications, including Microsoft Office 365
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must have dependable transportation and willing to travel to school-based internship sites

Nice To Haves

  • Ten (10) years of classroom teaching experience or combined ten (10) years of teaching and school administration experience combined.
  • Must have a National Board Certification.
  • One (1) year or more experience as a first-year teacher or mentoring pre-service.
  • One (1) year or more experience delivering professional development.
  • One (1) year or more experience supervising teacher candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in on-site observation, instructional coaching, and mentorship at partner sites.
  • Delivers professional development in teacher preparation and teacher mentorship.
  • Serves as a liaison between teacher residents, mentor teachers, school administrators, and the University.
  • Recruits, retains, and facilitates development of mentor teachers in collaboration with school and district administrators.
  • Attends university meetings and programs, including professional development, as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
