About The Position

St. John Catholic School in Westminster, Maryland, is seeking a part-time Religion Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic school year. This role involves planning and implementing standards-based religion lessons aligned with the Archdiocese of Baltimore's curriculum, aiming to foster students' spiritual growth and faith formation within a Catholic school setting. The teacher will create engaging, age-appropriate lessons covering Catholic faith, Scripture, sacraments, prayer, and Christian values, cultivating a classroom environment that encourages a deeper relationship with God and active participation in the faith community. Key responsibilities include instruction, assessment, integrating Catholic teachings, and collaborating with faculty, administration, and families to support students' holistic development. Requirements

  • Must be an active, practicing Catholic fully able to participate in the life of the Church.
  • Maryland certified or willing to pursue MD certification.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Strong instructional skills.
  • Commitment to Catholic education.
  • Ability to serve as a faith-filled role model for students.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement standards-based religion lessons as prescribed by the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
  • Foster the spiritual growth and faith formation of students.
  • Create engaging, age-appropriate lessons that promote knowledge of the Catholic faith, Scripture, sacraments, prayer, and Christian values.
  • Cultivate a classroom atmosphere that encourages students to deepen their relationship with God, live out Gospel values, and actively participate in the faith community.
  • Plan and deliver religion instruction.
  • Assess student understanding.
  • Integrate Catholic teachings into classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty, administration, and families to support students' spiritual and academic development.
  • Follow the guidelines and tenants of the Catholic Church and the curriculum of the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
  • Create and implement lesson plans with clear objectives in line with the Archdiocesan Course of Study, utilizing techniques to motivate, challenge, engage, and inspire students to think confidently and independently.
  • Be responsible for the safety and active supervision of students.
  • Integrate the use of technology effectively into the curriculum.
  • Communicate with parents in a professional and timely manner.
  • Perform recess and lunch duties as scheduled.
  • Support the Catholic spirituality and mission of the school.
  • Attend various school events such as Back to School Night, Graduations, and Open House.
