About The Position

Under the direction of the school principal, this role is responsible for supporting the Diocese of St. Augustine in its mission to educate, evangelize and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment. The teacher recognizes and supports the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. This role involves building the school's faith community through personal example, active participation in a faith community, and by helping to plan school religious and service-related activities. The teacher must adhere to all diocesan and school policies and regulations, while supporting the school’s spiritual, pastoral and educational mission.

Requirements

Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and registered member of a Catholic parish faith community is preferred (for some teaching positions this is required; consult with the school principal).
Must possess one of the following: 1. a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Catholic college/university in Theology, Religion, Religious Studies, Theological Studies 2. Graduation certificate from the Diocesan Lay Ministry Program or comparable program or 3. Twelve credits of graduate level theology from an accredited Catholic University in the 4 approved areas of study.
Must be willing to complete at least 30 hours of approved professional development in the area of religious studies every three (3) years.
Ability to respect, promote, accommodate, and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines and laws of the Roman Catholic faith in the way one speaks, acts and instructs.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and every five years; must complete Protecting God’s Children (PGC) workshop prior to employment.
The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
Proficient in use of computer technology, including school-related software.
Ability to have flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately.
Must consistently demonstrate a positive, friendly, respectful and caring attitude with colleagues, the public, and all one serves in word and deed.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
