About The Position

This role involves exercising general and particular professional duties as a teacher in a school, under the reasonable direction of the principal. Key responsibilities include planning and preparing courses and lessons, teaching assigned pupils, and assessing their development. The teacher will promote the general progress and well-being of pupils, provide advice on educational and social matters, and communicate with parents. Duties also encompass participating in staff development, maintaining discipline and health and safety, preparing pupils for public examinations, and contributing to the review and development of management activities and administration. The role requires availability for 195 days a year, with specific hour limitations for teaching and overall work time. Teachers may also be required to provide staff cover under certain conditions.

Requirements

  • Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ paid demonstrable experience of teaching Foundation stage to achieve positive learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrable experience of using a range of effective classroom strategies to provide support and challenge children and young people of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs.
  • Demonstrable experience of using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
  • Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of pupils.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools/media and the use of tablets/mobile technologies.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.
  • Effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils to raise achievement.
  • Proven ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to use initiative, solve problems and be flexible.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team, and to motivate self and others.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrable experience of leading or assisting with a choir in a school environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of co-ordinating or assisting with the co-ordination of Music in a school environment.
  • Hold a relevant qualification (minimum grade 5) relating to music eg. vocal or instrumental.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
  • Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work.
  • Assessing, recording, and reporting on pupil development, progress, and attainment.
  • Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and assigned classes/groups.
  • Providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational, social matters, further education, and future careers.
  • Making records of and reports on the personal and social needs of pupils.
  • Communicating and consulting with the parents of pupils.
  • Communicating and co-operating with external persons or bodies approved by the employing authority and Board of Governors.
  • Participating in meetings arranged for the purposes described above.
  • Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports, and references for pupils.
  • Participating in staff development and performance review schemes.
  • Reviewing teaching methods and programmes of work.
  • Participating in further training and professional development.
  • Advising and co-operating with the Principal and other teachers on curriculum, teaching materials, programmes, methods, and pastoral arrangements.
  • Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils.
  • Safeguarding pupils' health and safety.
  • Participating in school meetings related to curriculum, administration, organisation, and pastoral arrangements.
  • Participating in arrangements for preparing pupils for public examinations and assessing them.
  • Contributing to the selection and professional development of other teachers, including induction and assessment of probationary teachers.
  • Co-ordinating or managing the work of other teachers.
  • Taking part in the review, development, and management of curriculum, organisation, and pastoral functions.
  • Participating in administrative and organisational tasks, including supervision of support staff and ordering/allocation of equipment.
  • Attending assemblies.
  • Registering pupil attendance and supervising pupils before, during, or after school sessions.
  • Supervising and teaching pupils whose teacher is not available, subject to specific conditions regarding class size and duration of absence.
