About The Position

The Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN) School provides a culturally immersive, Indigenous land-based education program for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Our mission is to nurture the well-being of students, families, and the community through an educational framework anchored in TWN laws of truth, family, culture, and well-being. Our Learning Environment includes Land-Based Learning where classes spend significant time outdoors in traditional territories, engaging in Outdoor Experiential Education (OEE). We have an Integrated Curriculum where Indigenous pedagogy is woven into the BC Curriculum, teaching STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), Humanities, and Physical Education in forests and along beaches. We focus on Holistic Growth, ensuring a positive environment where learning flourishes. At TWN School, we offer a unique learning program and seek teachers who are passionate about inspiring students through a culturally relevant lens. As a Teacher Teaching on Call (TTOC), you will play a vital role in maintaining the continuity of this program. You will be responsible for covering classroom absences and may also serve as a resource teacher, providing essential support to the broader learning environment. The TOC’s primary duty is to deliver day plans provided by the classroom teacher. However, the TOC must be flexible, able to adapt or create plans as needed, and respond to direction from school administration to meet student needs. It is also expected that the TOC communicate with the classroom teacher at the end of the day to provide a summary of events and progress. The TOC should be prepared to participate in field trips and various school activities, including outdoor events in all weather conditions, and must be physically capable of engaging in these activities. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
