Teacher of Visually Impaired (TVI)
About The Position
This is a full-time position for the 2026-2027 school year, located in the Greater Lisle, IL Area. The role involves providing specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, conducting assessments, adapting materials into accessible formats, and collaborating with educators, staff, and families. The position also focuses on supporting student independence, assistive technology use, and compensatory skills. The job description also includes general teaching responsibilities such as developing and implementing IEPs, managing classroom behavior, collaborating with other professionals, monitoring student progress, writing reports, and adapting curriculum.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from regionally accredited college or university in Special Education or related field.
- Hold or be qualified to hold an Illinois Professional Educator’s License (PEL) in Visually Impaired.

Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments in alignment with their IEPs
- Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments to guide instructional planning
- Adapt materials into accessible formats such as braille, large print, and tactile graphics
- Collaborate with educators, staff, and families to support student access and success
- Support development of independence, assistive technology use, and compensatory skills
- Develop and implement IEPs tailored to student needs
- Provide specialized instruction across academic subjects
- Manage classroom behavior and create a structured, supportive environment
- Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and families
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Write progress reports and maintain compliant documentation
- Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies for diverse learning needs
- Incorporate technology and resources to enhance learning
