About The Position

This position involves providing educational services to students who are visually impaired, ranging in age from 3 to 21. The role requires travel to various schools to deliver these services. Key responsibilities include conducting functional vision assessments, preparing reports, participating in IEP meetings, and recommending specialized materials, equipment, and technology. The teacher will also provide training on these resources to students and staff, collaborate with ESY teachers on instructional modifications, and adapt materials for visually impaired students. The position is for a 180-day contract period.

Requirements

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator’s License with Blind, Visually Impaired endorsement
  • Must be CPI certified or willingness to complete training

Responsibilities

  • Provide educational services to students who are visually impaired ages 3 to 21
  • Complete functional vision assessments and written reports
  • Participate in IEP meetings and assist the team in determining education needs related to vision
  • Recommend specialized materials, equipment, and technology to meet the students’ educational needs
  • Provide training on materials, equipment, and technology to students and staff, as needed
  • Communicate and plan with ESY teachers about the modification of instructions to meet the students’ educational needs
  • Adapt materials for students who are visually impaired
  • Participate in ESY meetings with ESY teachers
  • Communicate with ESY Coordinators
  • Other duties as assigned
