About The Position

This is a partial (.2 FTE) CTE Teacher position and partial (.8 FTE) general education position at Geiger, a Montessori School. The incumbent must have or be eligible to obtain a valid Washington state CTE teaching certificate endorsed in STEM V141000. CTE Teacher Certification and maintenance of a current CPR/First Aid/AED card are requirements for this position and a condition of employment. Applicants must hold or be willing to obtain Montessori training credentials from an MACTE accredited training facility (AMS or AMI preferred). The position plans, organizes, and provides students with appropriate learning activities, experiences, and a classroom environment designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. It supports the School/Building, School Board, District, and State curriculum, policies, and initiatives for student achievement.

Requirements

Hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Washington state CTE teaching certificate endorsed in STEM V141000.
Hold or be willing to obtain Montessori training credentials from an MACTE accredited training facility (AMS or AMI preferred).
Maintain a current CPR/First Aid/AED card.
If not currently holding a valid WA state CTE teaching certificate, be expected to enroll and successfully complete the required course of study for CTE teacher certification within 2 years.
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
Valid Washington State teaching certificate.
Completion of all District-required trainings, as assigned.
Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.

Responsibilities

Develops, plans, and strategizes a program of study based on and capitalizing on the learning needs of students, meeting individual needs, interests, and abilities.
Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to engage students and provide opportunities for participation consistent with students’ needs and capabilities.
Assesses student growth regularly and provides progress reports; maintains and issues appropriate grades.
Refers students for evaluation by District Specialists as needed and required.
Provides guidance to promote students’ welfare, educational development, and citizenship.
Strives to implement the District’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

Provides for and promotes the care and protection of students and school property.
Supervises students in lunchroom, hallways, school grounds, and any program held at the school under School District sanction.
Effectively utilizes and provides access to community and District resources to enhance student learning and teacher effectiveness.
Maintains and updates knowledge and skills by participating in professional development activities and training.
Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
Supervises Para Educators and other classroom office assistance as required.
Provides guidance and works with staff members appropriately.
Develops and maintains professional and collegial relationships with colleagues.
Collaborates with peers and administrators to improve student learning.
Supports appropriate conduct and performance of job duties.
Adheres to Tacoma Public School Board policies.
Contributes to the development of new teachers and student teachers per District guidelines.
