About The Position

This position is for a Teacher in the Migrant Child Care program, located in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. The role involves establishing a learning environment, implementing curriculum, and supervising children to advance their academic and life skills. The teacher will also supervise Teacher Assistants, maintain documentation, ensure health and safety policies are followed, and participate in program activities.

Requirements

  • Must have a BA/BS in Elementary Education or related field
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work flexible and/or irregular hours with some travel.
  • Have reliable transportation and possess a valid driver’s license and have adequate insurance.
  • Must have basic computer skills to include but not limited to data entry and internet
  • Must complete a physical exam and tb test showing absence of Tuberculosis within 30 days of employment.
  • Must complete Fire Extinguisher Training, Child CPR and First Aid within 30 days.
  • Must submit all relevant educational documentation at the time of application.

Responsibilities

  • Establish an indoor and outdoor classroom environment conducive to learning based upon the curriculum and supplements.
  • Provide planning and implementing learning experiences that advance all areas of development of children including improving academic and life skills of children by developing their literacy and phonemic, print, and numeracy awareness, understanding and use of language, understanding and use of increasingly complex and varied vocabulary, reading skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Supervise and interact with children through individualized lesson plans to address individual learning specified time frame in accordance with the designated curriculum.
  • When necessary, participate in IEP implementation meetings for implementation of designated goals and objectives through weekly activity plans and request T/TA as needed.
  • Responsible for direct supervision of Teacher Assistants to include scheduling daily activities, and coaching and mentoring assistants.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation (classroom roster/absentee list, active supervision information as well as meal count, classroom child file, case notes and assessments, etc.) on children and classroom activities, and submit written reports in a timely manner.
  • The Teacher will always conduct direct sight and sound supervision of all children and demonstrate active supervision. Examples include but are not limited to posted playground supervision maps showing teacher placement, walking around, and monitoring the classroom, and actively engaging in various projects, activities, and choice play within learning centers. The Teacher will be responsible for the Active Supervision Process.
  • The Teacher will work with other staff in the coordination and assistance with arrival and departure of children at the center, and work with bus staff to ensure communications from center to parents, and parents to center are clearly explained and delivered.
  • Implement appropriate health and safety policies and procedures in the classroom including but not limited to storage of poisonous and hazardous materials, conducting health and safety checklists, injury/accident prevention, child accident reports, sanitizing and cleaning, and universal precautions.
  • Plan and actively participate in field trips as scheduled.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings, parent activities and other program activities as assigned by the Center Manager.
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect in accordance to state law and UMOS policies and procedures.
  • Implement Family Style Meal Service according to Family Style Meal Service Policy & Procedure.
  • Responsible for the documentation of the Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)/Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
