About The Position

The Classroom Assistant Teacher will work under the supervision of the Classroom Teacher to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily plan in accordance with assigned UMOS curriculum, policies, and procedures. This role involves active supervision of children, ensuring their safety, and maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment. The Assistant Teacher will collaborate with the teacher and other specialists to support children's educational, developmental, and behavioral needs. Communication with families and adherence to program standards, including the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and health and safety protocols, are essential. The position also requires participation in staff meetings, trainings, and timely submission of documentation.

Requirements

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Possess a Child Development Associate credential or state-awarded certificate that meets/exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, or be enrolled in a CDA program immediately upon acceptance of position and enroll in a program that will lead to an AA or BA.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, data entry and internet.
  • Have reliable transportation; hold a valid driver's license and adequate car insurance.
  • Work flexible, irregular hours with some travel.
  • Criminal background check prior to employment.
  • Physical exam and TB test showing absence of Tuberculosis within 30 days of employment.
  • Approved Shaken Baby Training prior to working with children.
  • Fire Extinguisher Training.
  • Infant/Child CPR and First Aid within 30 days of employment.
  • Submittal of all relevant educational documentation at the time of application.
  • My Teaching Strategies training or online training modules and become reliable in MyTeaching Strategies within 30 days.
  • Preschool Staff Only – CLASS testing modules within 30 days of completing CLASS training.
  • Must register and provide proof of register in Wisconsin or Missouri childcare registry within 30 days of employment.

  • Some Child Care experience is preferred.
  • Preferred Bilingual in Spanish and English (oral and written).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure children are supervised by sight and sound at all times, complying with UMOS Active Supervision Policy and Procedures.
  • Maintain overall safety, sanitation, and cleanliness of the classroom and playground.
  • Provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily plan under teacher supervision.
  • Collaborate with the Classroom Teacher to schedule, complete, and track home visits, conferences, developmental screenings, and assessments.
  • Assist the teacher in using assessment results to create individualized plans with parents and track child progress.
  • Assist in the setup, maintenance, and daily preparation/clean-up of indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Comply with deadlines for daily and weekly tasks.
  • Collaborate with Special Needs Facilitators to individualize plans for children with special needs.
  • Establish behavioral strategies with the Education Coordinator, Teacher, and Special Needs Facilitator for children with behavioral challenges.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with all families and children daily.
  • Use and model positive guidance techniques with all children.
  • Ensure mandated reporter guidelines are followed at all times.
  • Recognize and celebrate cultural diversity and engage families in multicultural activities.
  • Establish and maintain professional interactions and relationships with families and staff.
  • Conduct a minimum of two (2) home visits with each family.
  • Ensure compliance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines.
  • Follow health and safety policies and procedures, including daily child observation, diapering/toileting/handwashing, and injury prevention.
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect per state law and UMOS policies.
  • Communicate with bus driver/monitor regarding child activities and behaviors, and assist in loading/unloading children.
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and center activities.
  • Submit all requested and/or required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Generate and collect non-federal share (In-kind) documentation.
  • Assist the classroom teacher to complete and submit all required documents for in-kind.
