About The Position

Under the direction of the school principal, the teacher is responsible for supporting the Diocese of St. Augustine in its mission to educate, evangelize and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment. This role involves integrating Catholic religious curriculum, planning and implementing lesson plans to achieve academic goals, and fostering a faith community within the school. The teacher must uphold the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church in their speech, actions, and instruction.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must maintain Professional Educator certification in the State of Florida.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within two years Basic Diocesan Ministry Certification.
  • Ability to respect, promote, accommodate, and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines and laws of the Roman Catholic faith in the way one speaks, acts and instructs.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and every five years.
  • Must complete Protecting God’s Children (PGC) workshop prior to employment.
  • Proficient in use of computer technology, including school-related software.
  • Ability to have flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately.
  • Must consistently demonstrate a positive, friendly, respectful, and caring attitude with colleagues, the public, and all one serves in word and deed.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and registered member of a Catholic parish faith community is preferred (for some teaching positions this is required; consult with the school principal).

  • Integrate Catholic religious curriculum, as articulated by the school.
  • Build the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate and help plan school religious and service-related activities.
  • Demonstrate and effectively communicate knowledge and competency of academic and religious curriculum; ability to organize learning materials to maximize time, as well as engage and motivate students.
  • Establish a consistent classroom management approach that promotes self-direction and a positive self-image.
  • Set high standards for student behavior and manage inappropriate behavior effectively, in accordance with school policy.
  • Participate in continuous professional development as a lifelong learner.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.
