About The Position

The Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) is seeking a Teacher to join their team. DYS is dedicated to transforming and saving the lives of youth throughout the state by supporting them, empowering families, and strengthening communities. In addition to three juvenile corrections facilities, DYS supports over 600 community programs that reach more than 90,000 youth statewide. This role involves working with students who are an average of 16-18 years old in small class sizes of 6-8 students. The position offers comprehensive paid training, significant time off, and no study hall or lunch supervisory duties. The State of Ohio is a drug-free workplace and this position may be subject to additional restrictions.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree or less (for Teacher 1)
  • Baccalaureate degree & 20 additional quarter hrs. but less than master’s degree (for Teacher 2)
  • Master’s degree (for Teacher 3)
  • Master’s degree & 30 hrs. of post-graduate study (for Teacher 4)
  • Applicant must successfully obtain Teacher Certificate or License prior to employment.
  • Must successfully obtain a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must complete a paid, mandatory 6 weeks of pre-service training.

Responsibilities

  • Assess educational needs of youth and develop and implement lesson plans to address those needs, including individualized assignments and training.
  • Provide instruction with individual assistance.
  • Counsel students concerning their performance, behavior, and/or personal problems.
  • Organize and/or monitor extracurricular activities if assigned.
