About The Position

This position is for a Teacher who will also serve as a Department Chair. The role involves providing students with learning activities and experiences to foster intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, enabling them to function successfully in society. The teacher will be responsible for instructional management, student growth and development, creating a positive school climate, participating in school improvement, assisting with personnel and administration, and engaging with the school community. Professional growth and policy implementation are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or approved Alternative Teacher Certification Program experience.
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Eligible for the appropriate Probationary Certificate through a TEA approved Teacher Certification Program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plans for the assigned curriculum program, showing written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate individual student differences.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable for student groups.
  • Cooperate with staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants and/or volunteers.
  • Utilize technologies in the teaching/learning process.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned duties and/or extracurricular activities, and may sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Present a positive role model that supports the school district's mission.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Establish classroom control and administer discipline according to board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
  • Assist in the supervision of students before, during, and after the school day as assigned by the principal.
  • Promote a positive work environment and staff morale.
  • Participate with staff in building a common vision for school improvement.
  • Participate in planning and implementing activities to ensure attainment of the school's mission.
  • Assist in selecting and orienting new instructional staff.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in the district professional development program.
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Observe professional and ethical standards.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary for job effectiveness.
