About The Position

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) is seeking a skilled and industry-experienced Precision Machining Instructor for Ginn Academy. This role involves leading a comprehensive Career-Technical Education program to prepare students for careers in machining, CNC operation, manufacturing technology, and industrial maintenance. The instructor will deliver rigorous instruction in machining processes, blueprint reading, CNC programming, metrology, safety practices, and project-based learning, aligned with Ohio’s Career-Technical Education standards. The position requires supporting students in earning industry-recognized credentials, completing authentic machining projects, and participating in work-based learning experiences. Compliance with all Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) requirements for CTE program delivery, assessment, and reporting is essential. The district offers competitive wages, strong administrative support, and ongoing professional development. This is a union position requiring 34.17 hours per week for 185 days per year.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of occupational experience in machining, CNC operation, manufacturing technology, tool and die, or a related field. A postsecondary degree in manufacturing or a related field may count toward required experience.
  • A valid Ohio Career-Technical (4–12) License with the appropriate endorsement, as defined by ODEW and CMSD.
  • A Career-Technical Workforce Development License with the appropriate endorsements, as defined by ODEW and CMSD.
  • An Ohio Professional Teaching License (Grades 7–12) in the appropriate subject area, along with demonstrated experience teaching Career-Technical Education courses.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Ability to pass BCI/FBI background checks.
  • Must be eligible and willing to obtain the appropriate Ohio teaching license based on ODEW requirements.
  • Knowledge of machining processes, CNC programming, blueprint reading, metrology, and manufacturing safety practices.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn CAD/CAM software, CNC equipment, and precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to maintain machining equipment and lab spaces following a regular maintenance schedule.
  • Understanding of foundational manufacturing concepts such as tolerances, materials, tooling, and process planning.
  • Commitment to the academic and personal growth of CMSD scholars and the mission of Ginn Academy.

Responsibilities

  • Teach machining concepts including manual machining, CNC operation, blueprint reading, GD&T, metrology, materials, and manufacturing processes aligned with Ohio CTE standards.
  • Guide students through hands-on machining projects involving turning, milling, drilling, grinding, CNC programming, and part inspection.
  • Integrate industry-standard tools such as CNC mills and lathes, manual machines, CAD/CAM software, precision measurement tools, and digital manufacturing technologies.
  • Create a collaborative, safety-focused classroom and shop environment that reflects real-world machining and manufacturing practices.
  • Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including small-group instruction and remediation.
  • Maintain an orderly, safe, and productive machining lab with clear expectations for student behavior and equipment use.
  • Prepare students for Industry-Recognized Credentials related to machining and manufacturing (e.g., OSHA-10, NIMS credentials, safety certifications).
  • Supervise students in work-based learning experiences such as machining internships, manufacturing job shadowing, and capstone machining projects.
  • Support and recruit students for Career-Technical Student Organizations (e.g., SkillsUSA), including, but not limited to, conferences and competitions.
  • Ensure student completion of all required CTE assessments and maintain accurate program documentation.
  • Maintain and lead an active advisory committee to ensure program relevance and alignment with machining and manufacturing industry needs.
  • Collaborate with machine shops, manufacturing companies, engineering firms, colleges, and community partners to provide students with real-world learning opportunities.
  • Engage parents/guardians as partners in student learning and career development.
  • Work effectively with colleagues, counselors, administrators, and support staff to meet student needs.
  • Participate in district-provided professional development and maintain current knowledge of machining technologies, manufacturing trends, safety standards, and CTE requirements.
  • Identify student academic, behavioral, or emotional needs and collaborate with appropriate staff to support student success.
  • Maintain accurate records, follow safety protocols, and ensure compliance with all district and state policies.
  • Maintain machining equipment, tools, and lab spaces, ensuring safe and effective operation.
