About The Position

Heartland AEA is seeking a dedicated professional to serve in a dual role Professional Service Provider: Teacher Librarian Consultant and Library Assistant for the 2026–27 school year. This position will split responsibilities as a teacher librarian consultant and a library assistant. The Teacher Librarian Consultant provides leadership and support to schools in compliance with Iowa Code 256.11(9) and 281—12.3(12). This role involves planning and coordinating media services, curating resources to enhance curriculum, promoting literacy, delivering professional development, and supporting school library programs through a service-for-fee model. The position also directs media teams, oversees library spaces and collections, and ensures services align with school needs while maintaining profitability. The Library assistant will provide students, educators, and staff with access to well-maintained instructional materials (physical and digital). This is a 12-month position working 199 days. The schedule will be Monday-Thursday August through June and 2 days a week in July.

Requirements

  • Appropriately licensed/certified by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, including an endorsement as a K-12 School Teacher Librarian
  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field
  • Successful experience partnering with schools and districts in planning and coordinating media services, curating resources to enhance curriculum, and supporting school library programs to achieve improved student outcomes
  • Experience with computers and basic programs such as Word and Excel and online databases and Googel Suite
  • A background check is a condition of employment
