About The Position

The position of the K-12 Multi-Grade Teacher is responsible for facilitating student academic success in the Olympia Regional Learning Academy’s (ORLA) hConnect program and iConnect program. In addition to teaching multi-grade classes in a variety of subject areas, teachers work in close partnership with parents through on-going communication in the development of a course study for each student’s academic program; advising and educating parents/guardians on the use of a variety of curricula to reach educational goals; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/assessments; fostering a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and the administration regarding student progress. ORLA is an innovative academy offering three different programs unique to the greater South Sound region. We welcome applicants who: are creative educators; value developing strong relationships with students and their families; and enjoy providing quality, creative instruction and learning facilitation to maximize student engagement. This is a 0.2 FTE continuing positions. This position involves instructing students in our K-12 hConnect and Middle School Academy programs. Classes will be a combination of core (primarily STEAM) and electives and will be during various periods on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Schedule varies Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during the hours of 8:30 - 3:00. Schedule may change each semester.

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State Certification
  • Prior experience working in a home partnership program.
  • Prior experience instructing students in a K-12 setting.
  • Demonstrated history of incorporating a high volume of experiential and creative activities into student learning.
  • Demonstrated history of teaching science, math, history and/or English at the secondary level.
  • Demonstrated history of instruction integrating disciplines and collaborating closely with fellow teachers.
  • Demonstrated history of working in a setting with high parental involvement.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology as a tool for communication and instruction and prior demonstrated use of technology in regular teaching practices.
  • Ability to write and effectively monitor written student learning plans under Alternative Learning Experience guidelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to design lessons centered around student interest and/or strengths.
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Prior successful experience teaching, and demonstrated knowledge and history of executing, essential compliance practices under recent Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) guidelines is preferred.
  • An endorsement in math, science, history, or English Language arts is required.
  • Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects.
  • Superior interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility in adjusting to program/school changes as needed to best serve student learning, interests, and family needs.
  • Teaching credentials for appropriate level of instruction and/or subjects.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.

Responsibilities
